Bamboo Excavation Project: Bournemouth
We recently completed a bamboo removal project in Bournemouth, tackling a well-established area of Bamboo that had spread across a front garden, encroaching into a neighbouring boundary which had resulted in the Bamboo damaging the adjacent neighbours driveway.
As is often the case with invasive bamboo, what appears manageable above ground can conceal an extensive network of rhizomes below the surface. In this instance, the root system had formed a dense, interconnected mass, making complete removal essential to prevent regrowth.
The Challenge
The bamboo had been left unmanaged for some time, resulting in:
- Thick surface growth forming a dense barrier
- Deep, aggressive rhizome spread beneath the soil
- Encroachment towards hardstanding areas and property edges
Partial removal or cutting back would not have resolved the issue. A full excavation approach was required to ensure long-term results.
The Removal Process
Using specialist equipment, we carried out a systematic excavation of the affected area. The process included:
- Breaking up and lifting the entire rhizome network
- Careful extraction around boundaries and services
- Loading and removing all waste from site
The scale of the root system is often surprising – large sections come out as solid mats, highlighting why DIY removal frequently fails.
Ground Preparation & Finish
Once the bamboo and root system were fully removed, the site was:
- Levelled and graded
- Cleared of remaining debris
- Prepared for replanting or landscaping
This leaves the client with a clean and usable space.
